Indicators of the evolution of marriage are many in Turkey. Separation from the idealized model of marriage as “traditional” provoques moral panic. But despite these changes it is possible to observe a continuum of gendered roles. The article focuses on the effects of these changes on marital attitudes of female students in Istanbul through reinterpretations of prescriptions transmitted by mothers to their daughters.
