By Anna Ilieva, Anna Shtarbanova
English

Bulgarian culture has preserved ritual dances beside feast dances. The author examines the place of folkloric dance during a year cycle and a life cycle in a culture that bears marks of cyclic time until the middle of the 20th century at least. Special attention is given to initiatic ritual dances of girls and boys in the fasting period preceding Easter and Christmas.
