English

On the basis of observations concerning the period posterior to 1989 the author analyses the role of ethnicity in the construction and preservation of the various national identities in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and more especially the linguistic dimension of the nationalist discourse of these nation-states.
