On the Conquest of Wild Nature

By Bernard Kalaora
English

More than the practice of open-air activities, the present-day cult of nature lays emphasis on "natural nature" thus implying solicitude towards it and preservation of its integrity. Everywhere in the country one tries to protect "primitive reserves" or "wilderness reserves" from human activities or to make human activities compatible with them by establishing precautionary rules and regulations. The great epic story of progress founded on the discovery of nature and the conquest of summits is finished and replaced by a re-creation of nature and a restoration of the whole planet earth. Nature would have the right to be protected in its integrity. The environmental problem thus changes the experience of nature, more especially regarding open-air leisure activities.
