Drug Consumption as Private Activity

Privacy and the Public

English

Practices of drug users coping with a precarious situation were mainly apprehended through the problematics of deviance (infraction of the law) and public health (resulting sanitary problems: drug addiction, aids, hepatitides). The approach of their way of life and search for excitement - which concerns the space in between public and intimate (body, drug injection) - gives sense again to these practices?: they are lived as an emotional experience and a search for sociality. This orientation, which is mainly constrained by society, exposes them to peculiar hardships and risks.
