Ethnology of Jura Agriculture

This article describes practices of farmers from the Jura and examines how they can transmit their agricultural patrimony. It reveals that farmers are dependent on their family and kindred, on federal grants and on world market prices. They are far from fitting to the “picture” Swiss people have of farmers. They play, however, a crucial part in the construction of national identity, because they embody a number of qualities that Swiss people would like to possess.
