Introduction to Study in Nursery School: The Role of Morning Rituals

The teachers of a nursery school group every morning their pupils (on a carpet or on benches) in order to practise activities together, such as counting the absentees, writing down the date, etc. What does this grouping serve and what can the pupils learn from it? By linking their observations with the problematics of lay rituals the article tries to point out the words and gestures that enable the pupils to apprehend a role and a culture.
