The historical dimension is fundamental for analyzing the notion of regional culture. The years 1789-1870 represent a period in which data were collected on local characteristics in a context of generally weak regional consciousness, but that paradoxically introduced later on regionalist movements and the perpetuation of “regional cultures” through the present day.
