This study of the successive stages of Ukrainian folk architecture and more especially religious architecture (mainly in wood) reveals a predominant model in architecture and arts in general. The author concentrates on buildings presenting a historical continuity (from the early Middle Ages to the present day); she analyzes their materials, forms and styles and shows that traditional architecture is a most important factor in the construction and preservation of Ukrainians’ national identity.
