In rural Upper Provence people’s relations to snakes have given rise to multiple ambiguous uses and representations based on oppositions such as knowledge/ignorance, fear/fascination, interest/repulsion, etc. But these relations are changing today. The rural population is confronted with the judgment of the urban one who is more sensitive to ecology. Are snakes going to become part of the national heritage ?
