When the Corsican football teams started to take part in the national competitions, they finally did feel French; but, as they were made to feel different, and not equal, as they had hoped, a deep feeling of “victimism” developed among Corsican people. Then in the early 1970s football contributed to the awakening of Corsican autonomism and nationalism, without becoming a genuine identitary football.
