Some Parisian nightclubs stage ostentatious wealth, mediatic celebrity and the prevailing canons of feminine beauty. People sensitive to these criteria of social success regard these places as true « social paradises ». Based on fieldwork and interviews this ethnographic study shows under which conditions this peculiar form of social enchantment is produced and operates. A luxurious setting and a drastic selection of people to the entrance contribute to perpetuate the magic of the place. For those who have access to it the counterpart of their selection is a relatively strong self-control.
