Identity Interactions and Insularity in Réunion

This article analyzes food and its status in Reunion island. This socio-ethnographic approach enables to understand the dynamics of « creolization ». Food practices let appear that the inhabitants of Reunion are torn between integration and differentiation. If creole food is a proof of creolity in interactions between islanders, insularity is the predominating value in identitary demonstrations opposing natives of Reunion and French people.
