Relationality and Place: A Three-Dimensional Perspective on Social Memory

Territories in Question: Routes in Territories
By Cathrine Degnen
English

Based on fieldwork in the north of England with older residents of a former coal mining village, the author examines the work of memory and its complex interactions with place, social relations and social rupture. Emerging from this research is the embeddedness of local knowledge and social relations in local places, a phenomenon she explores in terms of what she calls a « three-dimensionality of memory ».
