This article examines two “lieux de mémoire” in Belgrade, Serbia, which commemorate war and represent the tension between monumental history and experience. These two monuments, marking the 1999 nato bombing and the Balkan Wars, are both invisible features of the urban landscape and symbolically charged places that pose questions about the series of “repetitive resurrections” that are inscribed in Serbian history and the city of Belgrade.
