The Canada Goose

English

This paper deals with conflicts and controversies between managers and hunters about the Canada Goose, Branta canadensis. Due to its long migrations that cover thousands of kilometres, this species has come to serve as a lightening rod for semantic oppositions between indigenous peoples and sport hunters, urban and rural inhabitants, geese lovers and geese managers. A clarion of changing seasons, the status of the Canada Goose ranges from an emblematic species in need of protection in Canada’s North, to an overabundant plague that need to be controlled in the usa. Only an analysis from both biological and anthropological perspectives can offer insights into this complexity.
