The Moods of the Weather

Journal of a Peasant from Creuse
By Solange Pinton
English

For 40 years, Adolphe M. has kept a diary, in which every daily entry starts with an account of what the weather was like over the past 24 hours. His record of the passage of time is shaped and structured by the calendar. He combines a personal vocabulary with scientific meteorological terms in an unceasing effort to capture extremely accurately all the fine variations of the weather (cold, heat and damp), on the farm, in three different hamlets.
