Among teens, the public affirmation of cultural tastes and distates is one way, among others, to perform gender identities. Based on two extensive fieldworks about French adolescents’ relation to several media and cultural practices, this article shows that cultural forms too associated with the elaboration of feminine subjectivity act as a “repulsive” pole for male teens : they stress their distances to cultural products marked by sentimentality, repress the expression of emotions in public, criticize and despise the female teens’ approach to culture. Youth culture is a new ground where to observe those re-masculinisation processes.
