In the social work, professionalism is often opposed to emotional commitment in relationship. However, helping families at home in child upbringing requires the entrance of professionals into the intimacy of families and a partake in daily activities, often on a long term basis. Inevitably these situations generate exchanges between professional and private life. The ethnographic observation of the relations between families and family support workers help us understand the institutional frameworks set by employers and the combination of private and professional exchanges.
