Ethnography of Grape Harvest in Bordeaux
By Pierre-Marie ChauvinEnglish
The division of labour in the wine production involves more and more external actors, the so-called “consultants”, who especially intervene during the harvest in order to decide when to pick up the grapes. The observation of a work scene before the harvest in a Bordeaux Growth allows to depict the cooperative and competitive relations between the Growth’s employees and the consultants. This strategic decision reveals the responsibility and the risks’ repartition games between actors characterized by heterogeneous job status and reputations.
