Inside and Outside the Louvre Pyramid
Territories in Question: Routes in Territories
By Mélanie RoustanEnglish
The Louvre Pyramid can be admired from outside but it is also enjoyed from inside. It is a functional building as well as a work of art. Within 20 years, it has become a monument in the monument, an emblem of cultural and touristic Paris, and a “cliché.” Some people go there for a walk or visit it before entering the museum; for others, it is a workplace. This fieldwork focused on the diversity of people, practices, and representations. The analysis questions the Louvre Pyramid as a place with its own dynamics of appropriations, from the local to the global, in a metropolis in tension between heritage and modernity.
