Brittany by Interest

Regional identity in Brittany, both as a construct and a perceived reality, is the result of underlying forces involving many actors. This identity market, which relies heavily on the importance of heritage, is busy establishing a consensus around the peninsula's so-called specificity. In such a context conducive to the prioritization of a Breton identity, the strong involvement of the Regional Council (Conseil régional) in the field of culture deserves close examination, as it seems to lead to a neutralization of political stakes in the name of some interest supposedly shared by all but in reality never quite disinterested.
