How Police Control Defines Prostitution

Considering the symbolic economy of commercial sex from the point of view of police agents, this paper demonstrates how they sort out their target populations and define prostitution while struggling against pimping. Thus prostitution is defined by the police according to criteria of domination and of prestige in the local police culture.
