Sport Socialization and the Training of “Great Men”: The Case of Handball

This paper presents the results of a socio-ethnographic study on a training center for handball players, considered a “house-of-men”, a place incorporating a form of virility whose conditions are studied in the numerous rituals surrounding the sport. Access to “sports excellence” training for male players provides them with material and symbolic advantages but at a high personal cost.
