Land reform and endogamy in Réunion Island At the end of the 1960s, a land reform is implemented at the heart of large sugarcane estates in Réunion. The author shows that, in spite of the promotion of a family farm model in favour of a unique successor, the number of farms did not decrease, on account of practices of endogamy which pre-existed at the time of the Plantation.
