The essay focuses on the experience of gay and lesbian parenting in Italy, starting from the role of the association “Famiglie Arcobaleno” in the construction and social legitimation of same-sex parenting. It investigates the way militant parents present themselves in the public arena to achieve social consensus around their choices and their families. The transparency and total visibility of their family intimacy is the strategy chosen by homosexual parents in search of legitimity as “normal” parents.
