The Song of Korça: An Investigation of Music in an Urban Landscape

Kënga Korçare is a musical genre native to the city of Korça in southeastern Albania. The genre’s close ties with the city are emblematic of the intimate relationship between musical activity and the sociocultural conditions that characterize urban life. Drawing on ethnographic fieldwork and historical research, this article examines the role of music in the city’s past and present cultural landscape.
