Aging, divorce, and family recomposition. New challenges in caring for elderly people
By Xavier Roigé, Montserrat Soronellas-Masdeu
English
The article analyzes the perceptions and strategies of the elderly in situations of divorce, step-families, and new forms of family. The study, based on qualitative interviews, finds that the way in which support mechanisms are implemented in families varies depending on whether or not there has been a divorce. This study helps us to understand how new discourses on aging are being constructed and how the roles of older people in these family contexts are being redrawn.
