Local bubbles: Natural wines between globalization and locavorism
Globalities of wine
By Clelia ViecelliEnglish
This article examines the values attached to natural wines, in particular locality, through the double lens of the globalization of wine and the rise of artisanal food. Through the ethnographic material drawn from my fieldwork in Italy, I argue that natural wines reflect global trends in the wine world and, at the same time, respond to the locavore desires of middle-class consumers. The transnational element characterizing their production and consumption reveals the contradictions attached to their localness.
