Campsites in the sky

This text is an extract from an autobiographical typescript that Patrick Williams intended to publish under the title, “Certain Unknown Characters Called: Gypsies, Roma, Roms, Romanichals, Travellers, Romanos, Manouches, Raboins.” He describes his encounter with these communities and the effects that it had on his way of looking at the social world and on his practice of ethnology.
